Merthyr Tydfil
Glamorgan
Photography by John Ball - 30th April 1998 (with Agfa ePhoto307 digital camera)
Scenes taken on a sunny spring day in the centre of the old town of Merthyr Tydfil, once one of the most important industrial centres in Britain.
Left: The old Town Hall building. Erected in 1896, it is now [1998] a night club.
Above: Chaplin's Café Bar in High Street.
Above: Roberts Lane.
Above: High Street Baptist Chapel, built in 1841. This image of an early painting of the chapel is reproduced by kind permission of John Eaton who explains, I was given this old picture of a Chapel in Merthyr. It is where my great grandmother was married.
Below left: A modern photograph of High Street Baptist Chapel.

Above right: The Scala is now [1998] a snooker hall, but in 1852 it was the Temperance Hall.
Above: A terrace of workers' cottages in Tramroadside North.
