A Trip to ASDA Supermarket
Trallwn, Swansea, Glamorgan
Photography by John Ball - 1. 00pm 20th July 1998
Join me on an expedition to do the weekly grocery shopping at my favourite supermarket. ASDA is one of the most popular supermarket chains in Britain. The pictures below feature the people shopping in ASDA on the day I visited, while the second webpage features some of the products on display.
Above: Parking the car at ASDA - in rather gloomy weather!!.
Above: In the shopping concourse at ASDA, before passing through the entrance gate.
Above: A security man nonchalantly conveys cash through the shopping concourse to his vehicle parked outside.
Above: Three rather large ladies (left) discuss the wine selection; while a gentleman (right) chooses cold meats at the deli counter. Note the bilingual signs.
Above: A busy area near the checkouts. The lady in the centre is one of ASDA's helpful staff.
Above: Queuing at the checkout. Unlike in North America, our checkout operators usually sit rather than stand at the checkout counter.
Above: Shoppers loading their trolley. In Britain it's usual for shoppers to bag their own purchases.
Above: After leaving the store, many shoppers take advantage of the (relatively) cheap fuel for their cars. The ASDA price for unleaded petrol is currently (July 1998) 64 pence per litre or just under £3.00 ($5.00 US) per gallon.
